Jen, you should take the Canscribe course. It is an online course and very comprehensive. There are numerous MTSOs that specifically hire graduates of the Canscribe program. I have been working steadily since graduating 4 years ago, and in fact was hired within 3 days of graduation. It may be a little expensive, but within 2-3 months, I had earned back the cost of the course. It's also a very significant tax deduction as it's considered a full-time course.
Hi tanya. You say you have been working for four years. Do you enjoy the work and can you make a full-time wage? I have been thinking of taking the canscribe too. Was the course difficult?

Medical Transcriptionist Forum - All these schools...???? Allied, Career Step: [QUOTE who="Chell in Gainesville, Florid...
I did some research and found out some information about Allied and Career Step, but would like some feedback from those with experience.
I found Allied Schools is accredited by the US department of education through the Distance Education and Training Council, they are given a B+ rating from the Better business bureau, and are approved by AHDI.
Then I found with Career Step is NOT accredited by the US department of education, that they are given an A+ rating from the BBB, and they are also approved by AHDI.
So Accreditation vs Non-Accreditation. What more should I know?
Keep in mind that Career Step is not Regionally nor Nationally accredited. That alone people is a huge Red flag. But of course Regionally Accredited is always better. I would hate to see someone get their certificate from Career Step only to find out that their employer doesn't except it base on the school Accreditation. I see it all the time. So please be smart.

Hey Tanya, I came across this forum and had recently spoke with the staff at Canscribe. Almost sounds like what they said was true about placement and abundance of work. I was wondering if you would be willing to share any other info about the course and how things have been as a graduate. I am definitely considering signing up.
Thanks

Medical Transcriptionist Forum - Any reviews for Career Step or Andrews Training Corp?: [QUOTE who="jonilikens in Pineville, Lou...
Thankyou for your quick reply. In your reply, you said that I would be lost in medical coding unless I had something previously. I was a respiratory therapist for 25 yrs., so some of it I would already know, like medical terminology, and anatomy. I am 57 and need something quick. I was thinking maybe I could find someone to be an apprentice , for me. I was attracted to these, because of my background, and doing them in 4-12 months. The medical coding is more expensive. I am concerned, because it seems that a computer program could quickly do what a coder does, if the doctor transcribes into a computer. Maybe this sounds stupid, but if a doctor transcribes into a computer , could the computer do the same, that a transcriber does? Seems to me, they could. As far as the jobs going overseas, I believe our new president has bought some back, and will continue to. I don't know! I cant do respiratory therapy anymore, because of the damage to my feet. The health careers are good, but there is a quick burnout. So, I am at a loss. Thankyou, again.
.
Oh please. MT jobs will never come back to this country. Keep your politics out of it though as what you say is pure lies. Trump has cost jobs in this country, he doesn’t have a clue how to run a government and everyone knows it. I’ve been an MT for 20 years. I was making barely minimum wage when I finally wised up and got out. Don’t waste your time or money on training to be an MT. And coding is no different. The jobs will all go overseas too. And no experience, no job.

I just need some information if someone is working from home as a MT and can answer how to apply for that. I just retired from full-time job as Medical Secretary and looking for part-time work at home as a MT, doing any billing for the doctors or any other related work that I can work on line.
I appreciate your response.
Thank you very much.

Medical Transcriptionist Forum - how to get a home position: [QUOTE who="someone who knows in Brownst...
WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST, IF YOU ARE A NURSE? You are in for a rude awakening. The general unspoken consensus is that medical transcriptionists are a bunch if idiot typists who don't know anything but how to type and can't even spell. That's the fact even though the the contrary is true. Be careful, because once you get into this unpleasant field with a bunch of hateful women, you will have a difficult time getting out. People will wonder what was wrong with your nursing skills that you are transcribing. Keep your nursing license up because once you finally are aware of all of this, it will be too late.
She probably wants to leave nursing because it's horrible being a nurse. You get beat, punched, hit, kicked, called names and the hours usually suck. Many Nurses don't get breaks nor do they get to eat during a shift.... let alone empty their bladders. The patients are rude and disrespectful and Nurses are subjects to disease and other dangers. The burnout rate for Nurses or those in the medical profession is astronomical! Now ask again why she is willing to take a lower paying job so she can leave nursing because it is obvious that you are clueless.

So, I'm looking for a job that I can travel with..
Travel:
My family moves around quite a bit and I was wondering if the medical coder job would support my lifestyle.
Pay:
I need to pay off some debts, traveling does have it's cons... Does it pay enough?
Education:
Does anyone know if Career Step is truly a good place to get a good education?
It seems that this forum is constantly getting both sides at the same time.
Are there study groups? Have they updated their info? I know you have to be vague because of the confidentiality but how vague are they? I can't get in any more debt and I don't want to risk it and $3700 is a lot of money.
The reason many MTs aren't making money is because they're not really trained properly. My school was MT School of Canada and it's one of the most comprehensive out there, even better than Canscribe, cause I have their coursework too. MTSoC teaches from the ground floor up, leaving no stone unturned, with a focus on efficiency and productivity. They work with you personally, have 100% job placement for graduates, and teach a lot about working for yourself which is where the real money is.
I notice your comment is from about four years ago; have you continued working in MT? I’ve been looking at both CanScribe and MT School of Canada, wondering if I’d be able to live off what I make.
Michael, I am a recent Career Step graduate and what you report is NOT the typical experience. Got my CCS and I have a job and I made quite a few friends in the forums, a lot of them have finished the program too. It's been a real school for a long time, I did my research ahead of time.
Also, I was able to contact instructors for help when I needed to.
I've done my fair research and are positive I'm going to start with CS for medical coding and billing. I'm concerned about the CCS exam though. I've seen multiple other students review it is very hard or impossible to pass since CS does not prepare you well enough.
What I've gathered is if you study hard enough and work fast enough within the exam time it is doable. I'm not expecting it to be easy.
I would just like to know if you felt that CS provided enough study material to make it doable?
