I don't know why everyone's fretting about not being able to find a job after completing transcription courses. I don't know much about the job market for medical transcriptionists, but I'm almost finished with the medical transcription and editing course with Career Step, and because I've heard about how medical transcription jobs are dying, and because I find medical transcription a lot harder to do, I'm going to be doing general transcription instead. If medical transcription jobs are really that hard to find, then you're limiting yourself by choosing to try to get into medical transcription. There are other options too... general transcription (which you're guaranteed to be able to work from home doing instead of wondering whether you can work from home or if you'll have to work in a hospital after you graduate), legal transcription, there's even media transcription and I've heard of police transcription as well (though that might fall under legal transcription, I'm not sure). I just don't know why the fuss. If you want to do independent contracting, which you're more likely to get work doing than as an employee, then you're likely to be able to get work if you score well on the tests on your application. Rev is one of the first companies I'll be applying to once I'm done and they hire beginners. You don't even have to go to school or have any experience or training to do general transcription.
So. Here it is 31 months after your post. What is your experience in the field now? Did you get any jobs? Are you making decent money?
